Instant Messaging
Send and receive IMs from other FWD and SIP-enabled contacts as well as buddies
from existing IM clients. Import your buddy lists from AOL, Yahoo, MSN, Google Talk, Skype, and ICQ. Include all
the functionality of your online presence, current online status, smileys, and buddy properties.
Voice
The FWD network is dedicated to providing reliable Voice-over-IP (VoIP)
connectivity to all its users.
Video
Broadcast video to SIP-enabled contacts via webcam and receive webcam video from those
contacts as well. Works with all standard webcam configurations as well as video enabled phones
such as the Vizufon CIP 5500.
Access Numbers
Use FWD to make toll free call using
special access numbers. You can also call in
from the PSTN (public switched telephone network) to FWD by dialing specific service
provider numbers.
Toll Free Services
We at FWD believe in Metcalfe's law and that the more nodes that can connect the better. If you run an IP based voice network and would like to peer with FWD, or if you would like to help us extend our ability to offer "toll-free / freephone" dialing around the world, please see our
peering page below.
Services such as US 800's numbers are specific to a calling area. For example if you are in France you can not call a US 800 number, but through FWD these countries and their Toll Free Access Numbers are reachable.
To dial a toll free number:
You must dial the prefix listed in the table below and then dial the number itself. The table is organized by country. For example, in order to dial the US toll free number 1-800-555-8355, you must dial *18005558355 or ***18005558355.
| Call Toll Free to | Dial Prefix |
| USA | *18XX or ***18XX (depending on the toll free extension) |
| Netherlands | *31800 |
| UK | *44800, *44500, *44808 |
| Norway | *47800 |
| Germany | *49800, *49130 |
Note: The toll free service works for most numbers, but occasionally, some locations cannot be reached. If you dial a number that cannot be reached, please let us know by e-mailng us.
The problem is due to the routing/reach of our partners. We are aware that there are occasionally 'holes' in connecting these numbers (sometimes only transiently), as we get more 'donations' of connectivity we can plug these holes.
There is a also a limit to the length of these calls.
Third Party Inbound to FWD
You can dial in from the PSTN to FWD by dialing the numbers provided by these service providers.

Call other Networks
We at FWD believe in Metcalfe's law and that the more nodes that can
connect the better. FWD allows you to connect to any of our VoIP partners by using prefix
access codes.
Dial from FWD to a peering partner
To dial to a peering partner you must first dial the access code listed below, and then the number itself. For example, if you have a packet8 buddy whose number is 1-408-687-4120, you would dial **898114086874120.
Dial from a peering partner to FWD
If you are on another network and you want to dial an FWD buddy, you must dial the prefix listed in the table below based on the partner you are calling from, and then the FWD number. So, for example if you are on packet8 and want to call the welcome line on FWD, 55555, you would dial 035155555.

Conference Calls
At this time, the FWD service does not support conference calling through provisioned numbers and pins.
FWD does offer a conference calling service via our software client FWD.Communicator. If you'd like
to make a conference call through FWD, we recommend downloading and installing FWD.Communicator.
You can then set up your conference call using this software.
White Pages: Directory Services
FWD offers a robust, searchable, configurable White Page style directory to all
FWD users. All FWD users are listed in the White Page Directory. The
entire FWD community can make use of it and it is only available to the FWD
user base.
Voicemail
FWD provides users the option to send and receive voicemail messages. Your voicemail is
not activated when you sign up for FWD. Subscribers can create, delete and recreate their
voicemail account whenever they choose.
Presence Status and Icons
FWD also allows users to let friends, family, or even the entire world see when they are online with simple status icons
and indicators.
Simply copy and paste the following html code on any webpage, replacing the userid with your FWD number.
